by Ralf Schmitt, PREVIEW BERLIN - The Emerging Art Fair, Berlin Tempelhof Airport, Hangar2, booth 36, Columbiadamm 10, 12101 Berlin, Opening Reception: Thursday September 08, 2011, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. (free entrance)During the summer term 2011 students of the post-graduate advanced course “Art and Public Space” by Prof. Simone Decker took part in my workshop about “New Artistic Formats” at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. Every participant was asked to develop and realize a “visit” which was then advertised, published and documented on the Website www.MyVisit.to. In one-on-one talks and group discussions, the format, conception, goals for the visit, and the artistic realization of the project were discussed and carried out. Not only will we examine standard exhibition practice, but also question our own attitudes and paradigms.
4 positions were invited for the presentation at the booth. At the same time multiples will be delivered in Berlin and its urban hinterland in the context of the project postwurf.org reflecting on and testing the art market.
Michael Dietlinger’s (*1975) object Auraakkumulator (AAKKU) is a multi-use storage device for aura energy based on the universal effect system. It is therefore excellent for giving meaningless objects great value. The re-auratization of an object is handled in three phases: first it will be cleaned, then strengthened and in the end it is refined into art.
Stress, no time, work and moving frequently result in not knowing people in your own city, not even your neighbors. Barbara Engelhard (*1974) rings door bells at unknown flats and houses in her hometown Fuerth. If someone is at home and invites her in, with their permission, she will take a picture of them together in the setting of the citizen’s choosing documenting their new friendships with photos for her poster City Friends.
In her video the obiists Geraldine Frisch (*1968) accompanies Mrs. Doro Guht, I. B. Obladen and Mrs. Obrist who visit DIY stores in upper Bavaria more or less regularly. They examine the influence of the offered goods and the tips and tricks conveyed to the customers by advertising clips.
Postwurf.org is an experiment of the art market run by Chris Weiß (*1979) with an unpredictable outlet. It pays visits to deliver art and works by converging at one location, a private piece of property – preferably by throwing something over the fence, over the wall into the premises, into the garden or into the front garden. The modus operandi of aggressive product advertising are being adapted to promote young artists.
