“Once, however, … Fruhtrunk came to class overcome with remorse and declared in front of everyone: ‘I have sinned.’ He then paid the incredible amount of 400 Deutschmarks into the kitty. When his students asked why, he admitted having accepted the commission to design the plastic bags for Aldi. At this moment, Fruhtrunk must have sensed how thin the line is between democratizing culture and its betrayal to the taste of the masses. This exhibition features the works of different creatives from Germany — including artists, designers, filmmakers, and sound designers — who re-evaluated the contemporary role of luxury and encapsulated their visions and agendas through their creations.
